    Translation

    • Here is made know in this document the terms which Brihtmær of Gracechurch has made with Archbishop Stigand and with Godric the dean and with all the community at Christ Church in Canterbury. Namely then that he has granted to Christ for Christ Church the homestead in which he resides and All Hallows church after his own day, and after that of Eadgifu, his wife, and after his children’s, Eadmær’s and Æthelwine’s, as they endowed it [i.e., the church] for the very best for the redemption of their souls, and so that the community must ensure that the service which belongs to the church neither cease nor fall off—in consideration of the things with which the church was endowed. These are the witnesses: Leofstan the town-reeve and Bishop [...] and Æthelwine Stikehare and many other thegns within the city and without.
