    • Ego Offa Merciorum rex deuotus monasterium quod celebri uocabulo Paulesbiri iuxta linguam huius insulae vocitatur æterna libertate pro animæ meæ salute amplifico.

    • I, Offa, pious king of the Mercians, enlarge with eternal liberty the monastery that according to the language of this island is called by the famous name of Paul’s burh [i.e., St Paul’s Minster] for the good of my soul.
