    • + In the name of the Lord God our Saviour Jesus Christ. There is a certain small piece of land, that is, a quarter of one sulung nearby Lyming suitable for the boiling of salt that I, Æthelberht, king of the dwellers in Kent, leased to your predecessor, Hymora, and to you, o abbot and priest, Dun. Over a long period of time now you have used the same loan with my agreement. I now so grant and give this small piece of land from my property, not for any secular money but only for the salvation of my soul, to you and to the church of the blessed Mary for whom your solicitude is foremost, so that from the present day and time it may be always to be in your power to have and possess in whatever way is pleasing to you. And the right of kings in that then is not to lie at all except insofar as is general in all church lands that are known to be here in Kent. And in order that this gift of mine should hold its fixed character permanently, I imprint the mark of the cross here below and am seeking that witnesses to this should subscribe. Executed on the twentieth day of the month of February, in the seventh year of our reign, in the fifteenth indiction, at Canterbury. And in addition I, King Æthelberht, have added to this gift that I have given for the salvation of my soul in each year one hundred \and 20/ full wagon-loads of wood for boiling the salt. Likewise I have given to him one hundred jugera [i.e., quarter-sulungs] of the same land in the place called Sampton [lost, in West Hythe]. These are the bounds of that land: from the east the land of the king; from the south the river that is called Lyminge; from the west and the north Hudda’s creek. + Mark of the holy cross that Æthelberht, king, the donor, wrote. + I, Tatwine, bishop, subscribed at the request of King Æthelberht. + I, Albinus, abbot, on the orders of the most pious King Æthelberht, subscribed. + Mark of the hand of Baltheard. + Mark of the hand of Bynna. + Mark of the hand of Eanberht. + Mark of the hand of Æthelheard.
