    • Our Lord Jesus Christ ruling forever. I, Cynewulf, king of the Saxons, have given to the brethren in the monastery of St Peter, which is located in the city of Bath, a parcel of land from my property, that is, 5 hides in the place which is called North Stoke, that they and their successors in that monastery should have it for themselves as a perpetual possession for their requisite use. And if anyone should in the future wish to violate this, let him know that he has been cursed, both in this world and in the next. And if anyone should wish to preserve what we have established through this gift, may the Lord preserve for that person a portion of eternal blessing forever. This gift was made in the year from the incarnation of the Lord 808. And as witness to this gift are those whose names have been recited below. I, Cynewulf, king of the Saxons, confirmed this gift with the mark of the cross. + I, Cuthbert, by the grace of God archbishop [of Canterbury], agreed and subscribed, and have cursed forever anyone subverting this gift. + I, Torhthelm, bishop [of Leicester], agreed. + I, Cyneheard, bishop [of Winchester], agreed. + I, Eanfrith, bishop [of Dunwich], agreed. + I, Herewald, bishop [of Sherborne], agreed. + I, Ecgwulf, bishop [of London], agreed. + I, Milred, bishop [of Worcester], agreed. + + I, Acca, bishop [of Hereford], agreed. + I, Ealdwulf, bishop [of Lindsey], agreed. + I, Eardwulf, bishop [of Rochester], agreed. + I, Offa, king of the Mercians, agreed to these decrees. + The mark of the hand of Botwine, abbot [of Medeshamstede]. + The mark of the hand of Eata + The mark of the hand of Ealhfrith + The mark of the hand of Deora + The mark of the hand of Ealdberht + The mark of the hand of Eadbald And these are the lands. First from Swineford up along the brook to ceolnes spring; along the hedgerow to luttes dell; then on the edge of the coppiced wood; along the edge to the way; along the way to ælesbeorge; down to alder coomb; along alder coomb to the Avon; along the Avon to Swineford.
