    Translation

    • (a) This is the agreement of Ealhburg and Eadweald about the estate at Bourne: what is to be delivered each year from the estate to the community at Christ Church for the sake of Ealhburg and of Ealdred and of Eadweald and of Ealawynn: forty ambers of malt, 240 loaves, a wey of cheese, a wey of lard, a mature bullock, four wethers, ten geese, twenty hens and four ‘fothers’ of wood. And I Ealhburg instruct my kinsman Eadweald in the name of God and all his saints that he observe this fully in his day, and thereafter instruct his heirs to observe it for as long as Christianity shall be. + And whoever may have the land [is to pay] twenty gesufl loaves to the church each Sunday for the souls of Ealdred and Ealhburg. (b) This is the almsgiving that Ealhhere enjoined upon his daughter Ealawyn from Finglesham [to render] from the three sulungs each year: 100 pence to the community at Christ Church. And whoever has the use of this estate is to deliver this fee in the witness of God and of all his saints, and whoever neglects this, then let it be on his soul, and not on his who ordered it to be done.
