    Translation

    • Here is made known in this document how after her demise Wulfgyth will bestow her things, of which Almighty God has allowed her to enjoy the use of in life. That is, therefore, first to my lord his due heriot. And I grant the estate at Stisted [Essex], with the witness of God and of my friends, to Christ Church for the support of the monks on condition that Ælfketel and Ketel, my children, may have the use of the estate in their day; and afterwards the estate is to pass to Christ Church without any controversy for my soul and for my lord Ælfwine’s and for [the souls of] all my children; and after their day half the men [dependants] are to be free. And to the church at Stisted, besides what I gave during my life, I grant Eldemesland and so much in addition that there shall be in all fifty acres of woodland and open country after my demise. And I grant to Wulfketel [? for Ælfketel] and Ketel, my sons, the estates at Walsingham [in East Carleton] and [East] Carleton and at [East] Harling [all Norfolk]. And I grant to my two daughters, Gode and Bote, Saxlingham [Norfolk] and Somerleyton [or Somerton, both Suffolk]; and to the church at Somerleyton [or Somerton] sixteen acres of [arable] land and one acre of meadow. And I grant to Ealdgyth, my daughter, the estates at Chadacre [Suffolk] and at Essetesford and the wood, which I attached thereto. And I grant Fritton [Suffolk?] to Earl Godwine and Earl Harold. And I grant to Christ Church for Christ’s altar a little golden crucifix and a seat-cover. And I grant to St Edmund’s [Bury] two ornamented horns. And I grant to St Æthelthryth’s [Ely] a purple [or costly] garment. And I grant to St Osyth’s half a pound in cash and my children are to pay that. And I grant to St Augustine’s one dorsal. And let him who may diminish my will, which I have now made known in the witness of God, have his joy on this earth diminished; and may Almighty God, who created and made all creatures, exclude him from the fellowship of all the saints on the Day of Judgement. And may he be delivered into the abyss of Hell to Satan the devil and all his accursed companions and there suffer with God’s opponents without end, and [may he] never afflict my heirs. Of this King Edward and many others are witnesses.
