    • Bounds of Wassingwell. On the west: the king’s folkland which Wighelm and Wulflaf hold. On the north: Cuthric’s down, Heregyth’s land. On the east: Wighelm’s estate. On the south: the (arch-)bishop’s estate at Chart. Translation of the bounds: Adapted from Charters of Christ Church, Canterbury, ed. N. P. Brooks and S. E. Kelly, Anglo-Saxon Charters (The British Academy, forthcoming), no. 83. Old English endorsement. These are the deeds of the estate at Wassingwell which King Æthelberht gave to his thegn Wullaf in exchange for another of the same size at Mersham. The king gave and booked to Wullaf five sulungs of land at Wassingwell in return for the five sulungs at Mersham. And the king made the estate at Mersham into folkland for himself, when they had exchanged the estates, except for the marshes and except for the saltworks at Faversham and except for the wood that belongs to the saltworks.
