    Translation

    • King Cnut greets Bishop Eadsige and Abbot Ælfstan and Æthelric and all my thegns in Kent in friendship. And I make known to you that I desire that Archbishop Æthelnoth shall now answer for the landed property [pertaining] to his bishopric, exactly as he did before Æthelric was reeve, and as [he did] after he became reeve until this [day]. And I will not allow the bishop to be threatened with any injustice, no matter who may be reeve.
