    Translation

    • + I Æthelnoth, archbishop of Christ’s church [or Christ Church], bought the estate at Godmersham from Earl Sired for seventy-two marks of white silver by weight and I gave it, while of sound health, to Christ Church to sustain the community for their refectory, for my soul. And may Christ divert him, who intends to divert this, from the joy of the heavenly kingdom into the torment of hell.
